How dangerous is skydiving?
There are risks involved in skydiving but thanks to the advancements in technology, regulation and training, the sport has become much safer over the last few decades. All our skydiving rigs have AADs (Automatic Activation Devices), even in the unlikely event that a skydiving instructor is unable to manually deploy the main parachute, the AAD will trigger the reserve parachute automatically based on limit height and speed. Most accidents in modern skydiving involve experienced skydivers making poor choices or performing risky maneuvers close to the ground.
Is it hard to breathe skydiving?
You most certainly can breathe while skydiving, and we recommend that you do! The freefall usually lasts between 45 and 60 seconds, it’s not fun to hold your breath for that long. We often tell customers, if you feel like you can’t breathe, stop holding your breath.
How long is a skydive?
A tandem skydive usually lasts between 45 and 60 seconds. The orientation of your body makes quite a difference. Experienced skydivers, in a head-down freefall, may experience speeds of up to 450 km/h and a shorter skydive. Skydives in a “belly to earth” position, like tandem skydives, usually last up to 60 seconds, due to larger areas exposed to the relative air in freefall and relatively lower speeds, still reaching up to 200km/h!
The ride isn’t over once the parachute opens! You now have 5 – 7 minutes to take in the views while enjoying a serene parachute ride. You could even ask your instructor to have a go at controlling the parachute.
